In line with the goal for a better home, Pinag-isang Lakas ng Samahan ng Progresibong Atenista (PIGLASAPAT), together with other external organizations, launched the first Ateneo Eco Congress last August 31, 2015 at Xavier Hall, Community Center, Ateneo de Davao University.

                Prior to the launching, the 99 delegates were among the 178 applicants. The application process was via email by submitting literary works concerning theme of environment protection.

                Atty. Alexis Lumbatan, from the office of the City Vice-Mayor, shared his notion about the youth participation in regards of a better future of the country. He also read the message of the Honorable Vice Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte on the Environmental concerns of the city and as what the youth can do with the underlying principle of practicality, feasibility and equality.

                “Capitalize on the education to attack the problem” Mr. Michael Casas, PIGLASAPAT moderator, aforesaid in his speech. He shared his views as Chemistry major in the alarming issues about the environment. He also construed on how our knowledge can influence most of our peers. A succeeding speech was also given by Mr. Dan Manacap, Ecoteneo president on his sentiment on the university’s solid waste management.

                Mr. Julius Gutierrez, the National Youth Comission representative for the event, spoke on the youth as a major contributor and benefactor of the country. He talked mostly on opportunities that the NYC and its partners were giving.

                Mr. Aldwin Chester Dumago, former PIGLASAPAT member, former SAMAHAN president and currently the association of Citibank employees’ president, was also present in the launching and gave his inspiring speech on his struggles as a principled man.

                As for the parliamentary procedure, Atty. Romeo Cabate was able to discuss what must the congress befitted in order to achieve its main goal: to make resolutions on environmental concerns. A preceding election of committee officers was also conducted.

                “Pangako Sa’yo: An Environmental Pledge” will also take place on Sept. 2, 2015 at Finster Auditorium as part of the event. The plenary sessions and closing ceremony will happen on September 4-5, 2015.
