Ateneo’s influential political parties – Bahaghari, Buklat and Piglasapat – united to call on the administration for a genuine tuition fee increase consultation. Despite the ongoing SAMAHAN Elections, the three political parties had set aside the political differences and opposing stances in order to push the #UsapMunaTayo agenda.
Dubbed as the “SOLIDARITY ACTION FOR GENUINE CONSULTATION,” the three political parties graced a Solidarity Walk in the Ateneo campus with the chant “Teka Muna, Usap Muna Tayo.” The three parties then gathered at the Gazebo grounds for the solidarity messages from each political party.
Solidarity Message of PIGLASAPAT
Amara Abrina, the incumbent Secretary-General of the SAMAHAN and the standard bearer of PIGLASAPAT for 2016 Elections, emphasized the students’ right to know about the goals and reasons for the tuition fee increase.
Solidarity Message of BAHAGHARI
Kenneth Paul Recaña, the incumbent president of Bahaghari, emphasized the importance of genuine student consultation in the decisions involving and affecting the students.
Solidarity Message of BUKLAT
Megue Zea Monteverde, the SS Representative candidate of Buklat, emphasized the pushing forward of the interest of students.
The three political parties were in unison for a genuine student consultation in order to justify the upcoming increase in tuition fee in Ateneo de Davao University. This is a historical event. It is a rare feat that Ateneo’s political parties opted to temporarily set aside the contrasting colors in order to push Ateneo’s first trialogue – #UsapMunaTayo.
